Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, has posted a Remote Customer Service Representative position to their careers page.
Applicants must live in the EASTERN or CENTRAL time zones of the US.
The pay range is $16 to $28.85/hr. The job comes with benefits, which appear to be broad.
In this role you would call members to schedule in-home visits with a Physician or a Nurse Practitioner. You’d also take calls from members and help them with their inquiries, including scheduling appointments.
A high school diploma or GED isn’t required if you have equivalent work experience.
This is a full-time job with an 8-hour shift from 9:00am-5:30pm local time. You may have to work occasional overtime or weekends.

This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday – Friday. Employees are required to work an 8-hour shift between our normal business hours of 9:00 am to 5:30 pm local time. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or weekends.
We offer 8 weeks of paid training. The hours during training will be 9:00am – 5:30pm EST (8:00am – 4:30pm CST), Monday – Friday.
If you are located within EST or CST, you will have the flexibility to work remotely* as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Call members to schedule in home visits with a Physician or a Nurse Practitioner
- Answer inbound calls from members and assist them with their inquiries
- Ensure that the appointments are scheduled accurately and resolve any scheduling issues or concern
This is high volume, customer service environment. You’ll need to be efficient, productive and thorough dealing with our members over the phone. You also must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes evening hours.
You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications – Remote Customer Service Representative:
- High School Diploma / GED or equivalent work experience
- Must 18 years or older
- 1+ years of work experience
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (create/edit/save/send documents, spreadsheets and correspondence)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA requirements
- Ability to work an 8-hour shift between our normal business hours of 9:00am-5:30pm local time. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in the health care industry
- Experience working with Medicaid or Medicare
- Experience working in a customer retention focused role
Telecommuting Requirements:
- Reside within EST or CST
- Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
- Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy.
- Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service.
- Must be able to connect directly into internet – via hard wire (either directly to modem or router)
Soft Skills:
- Ability to type and talk at the same time while navigating through multiple screens
- Experience working in a metric-driven work environment
- Experience using an auto dialer system

Compensation & Benefits
The hourly range for this role is $16.00 to $28.85 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
